Privacy policy.

Our commitment

Aboriginal Hiring ("we", "us") protects your personal information in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy laws. We collect only what we need to run a job board, and we never sell your personal information.

What we collect

• Account details: your name, email address, password (stored only as a one-way hash), and whether you're a job seeker or an employer.
• Job seeker profile: what you choose to add, such as phone, location, headline, work history and your resume.
• Applications: the jobs you apply to, your cover note, the resume you send, and messages with the employer.
• Employer information: company name, logo, description, contact details and the jobs you post.
• Messages you send us through the contact form.
• Technical information: your IP address and basic request details, kept briefly for security, rate limiting and troubleshooting.

How we use it

• to run your account and sign you in;
• to send your application to the employer you applied to, and let you and them exchange messages;
• to publish employers' jobs and company profiles;
• to answer your questions and handle reports;
• to keep the Website secure and prevent fraud, spam and abuse;
• to meet our legal obligations.

We don't use your information for advertising, and we don't build marketing profiles.

Who sees your information

• Employers see your application, resume and messages only for jobs you apply to. Once they have it, they are responsible for how they use it.
• Everyone can see job postings and company profiles. Job seeker profiles are not public.
• Service providers who host the Website for us (Vercel for the application, Supabase for the database and file storage) process data on our behalf under contract. Our database and files are stored in Canada (Montreal).
• Maps on the Website load map tiles from OpenFreeMap, which receives your IP address when a map is shown.
• We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.

We do not sell or rent personal information.

Cookies

We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. See our cookie notice for details.

How long we keep it

We keep your account information while your account is open. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your profile, resume and applications within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep a record. Backups are overwritten on a rolling basis. Contact form messages are kept for up to two years.

How we protect it

Passwords are hashed, connections are encrypted (HTTPS), resumes are kept in private storage that only you and the employers you apply to can open, and access to our systems is limited to people who need it.

Your choices and rights

You can see and update most of your information from your dashboard. You can also ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, withdraw consent, or delete your account. We'll respond within 30 days. If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca).

Children

The Website is for people old enough to work in their province or territory. We don't knowingly collect information from younger children.

Changes to this policy

We'll post any changes here with a new date. If a change is significant, we'll tell account holders by email or on the Website.
